As the name suggests, this blunt has a conical shape instead of the regular straight cylinder. Quite simply, one end tapers off, while the other widens out. A cone blunt is aesthetically pleasing to look at – for sure – but that is not why you should learn how to roll one. More than meets the eye, it provides unprecedented benefits that traditional blunts cannot match.
Why fashion the good old blunt into a cone?
Well, for one, the unique shape holds more plant material than usual, ensuring there is more than enough when toking with friends. Not to mention, it looks a lot cooler. The structure also tends to be sturdier, making it less likely to fall apart. Best of all, it is easier to roll than a straight blunt.

How To Roll A Cone Blunt
Rolling a cone blunt is relatively easy to do. It does require time and patience. With some practice, you will surely make that perfect cone in no time.
Step 1: Gather All The Materials Needed
Rolling a cone blunt only requires three primary materials – the cigar, cannabis buds, and filter.
Cigar
The use of cigars or cigarillos is what sets blunts apart from joints. Its contents are removed, leaving you only with the tobacco wrap, which is where the herbs will be packed later on. For best results, opt only for premium-quality cigar brands. Most blunt users swear by Swisher Sweets, Dutch Masters, White Owls, and Zig Zags, among others.
Cannabis Buds
Ready the stash. It doesn’t matter if you bought or harvested the colas yourself, as long as it has been cured to perfection. Otherwise, you will not be able to maximize the aroma, flavor, and potency of the flowers.
Filter
A filter – also called a crutch or a roach – is a tiny paper placed at the narrower end of the cone blunt. While optional, it is strongly recommended that you use one. It essentially acts as a mouthpiece, ensuring that the burnt plant matter does not enter the mouth and the throat. It also prevents the lips from getting scorched when taking a hit. Filters can be bought pre-rolled, but you can also make it from scratch using stiff cardboard.
Step 2: Grind The Buds
Preparing the herbs involves crushing it into smaller pieces. Some may use a pair of scissors to chop down the plant matter or break it apart using fingers. Either way, it works – to a certain extent. But the buds tend to break unevenly, resulting in uneven burn and less-than-satisfying smoke. Also, some of the bits may not thoroughly burn. Meaning, you lose some precious cannabinoids. For a more potent hit, use a weed grinder.
If you do not have a weed grinder on hand, then you will have to make do with a pair of scissors. Just be patient and meticulous, making sure to cut down the herbs into small bits, and to keep them more or less uniformly-sized.
Step 3: Make The Filter
There are many ways to prepare a filter. The most convenient way is to roll it into a cylinder. This, though, is not recommended as it may still let some plant matter pass through. The preferred method is to make a few accordion-style folds first before rolling the paper. While it may take some practice to master, rest assured that the time and effort are more than worth it.
First and foremost, grab some rigid paper that is thicker than the standard bond paper. A postcard, magazine subscription card, index card, Manila file folder, or a notebook’s back cover will do. Cut a 1″ x 2″ piece.
Hold the strip of paper horizontally. Form a W or an M shape by bending a few pleats at the one end. Remember, do not fold but bend only. Each crease should have approximately the same size.
After molding the paper into the preferred shape, roll it up so that the accordion-style folds are inside the cylinder. Slightly heat the filter by running a lighter over it, helping keep the pleats in place.
Note: For the choice of paper, it is best to choose unbleached paper without glossy coating or ink. That is to lessen or avoid chemical toxins from being released if combusted or subjected to high heat.
Step 4: Prepare The Tobacco Wrap
Before, the only way to make a blunt was to empty a cigarillo and use the tobacco wrap to hold the herbs. Nowadays, though, you can already buy empty blunt wraps. Still, it would help if you experienced how blunts were traditionally made at least once. Also, the do-it-yourself route offers many advantages, such as more control over the cigar quality, blunt size, the amount of weed, and ultimately, the overall smoking experience.
Start by splitting the cigar lengthwise using a sharp knife or blade. Do so carefully to avoid tearing the wrapper leaf apart. Only cut the top shell of the cigar. Once open, remove the tobacco innards and discard it. Or, you can store it if you plan on smoking some spliffs later on.
After emptying the cigar, dampen the interior of the wrap to make it less brittle and more comfortable to work with. You can moisten your finger by dipping into some water and spreading on the wrap or use saliva by licking.
Step 5: Pack & Roll The Herbs
Lay the tobacco leaf horizontally on a flat surface. Place the filter on one side of the wrap, then start filling it with about 1 to 2 grams of ground cannabis. To form the cone shape, place less weed near the filter, gradually increasing the amount towards the other end until you have a triangular outline.
Roll the blunt by gently moving it back and forth between the fingers. You can also slightly press, pinch, and/or mold the weed inside. By the end, the herbs should appear conical and also be able to retain its shape even without the paper or the fingers holding it in place.
Step 6: Seal
After achieving the cone shape, tuck the blunt under itself. Start at the fat end, tightening and rolling the wrap as you approach the filter. Lick the insides of the exposed edges, then seal. This time, begin at the narrow end, then slowly work your way to the broad tip. Dampen the margin more as needed.
Step 7: Bake The Blunt, Light It Up And Enjoy
To seal the tuck even further, you might want to “bake” the cigar wrap. It involves running a lighter under the seam and around the cone. Make sure not to hold the lighter too close – just enough to heat it.
After securing the blunt, blaze it up, take a hit, and indulge in the pleasurable high.
A Cone Blunt Is The Way To Go
Rolling a cone is an art, and like any skill, it may take some trial and error to grasp. But once you do, the sense of achievement is immense. And, without a doubt, the much-awaited high will be even more gratifying when it comes. Not only that, but it will also elevate your status among your friends. What else can be more high-class than deftly rolling a blunt during toking sessions? And since a cone blunt is sturdy and packs more weed, you can pass it around, share with friends, and not worrying that it will fall apart or won’t be enough for everyone.
So, what else are you waiting for?
