As mentioned earlier, Blue Dream matures a bit more slowly compared to other strains. Nonetheless, your waiting time will be rewarded by an exceptionally large yield of very potent buds. Allowing this strain to reach its full potential outdoors can boost your harvest even more. Still, if your climate is not consistent, an indoor grow room would be the better option. You would have more control over the elements and with the proper training technique, you can accelerate and increase your yield.
Our Blue Dream seeds are feminized, which means that they are bred to produce only female plants. As this white paper from 2017 explains, male plants are the bane of every grower whose goal is to produce smokable marijuana. This is because males carry pollen that can contaminate the females’ flowers and decrease productivity. By eliminating the male sex chromosomes, we guarantee that your plants will be heavy with buds come harvest time.
If you are growing indoors, you might feel that Blue Dream takes a long time to get a move one, but don’t be fooled. As it approaches the flowering stage, it will double in height practically overnight. If your grow room ceiling is seven feet high, that is barely enough space for it to stretch. Use a stake to support the plant so that it does not tip over. But if your ceiling is too low, you can try either the Sea of Green or Screen of Green low-stress training methods. The latter technique, for example, tucks new growth under a flat screen so that the plant grows more horizontally.
If you have no choice but to grow outdoors, then your primary consideration would be to fend off pests. Blue Dream attracts plenty of wildlife, such as deer, raccoons, and rabbits. It is also susceptible to red spider mites and powdery mildew. Keep the surrounding area free from debris and dust to prevent infestations. Planting “companions” like marigolds, geraniums, basil, garlic, and mint around your marijuana can also help to repel pests.
In any case, make sure that you feed your crop lots of nutrients, especially nitrogen. This strain is known for its ravenous appetite and can consume nitrogen well into the flowering stage without the usual leaf burn. Maintain the temperature between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to 25 degrees Celsius). If you are growing outdoors, you should be prepared to take your plants inside if the temperature drops. Moreover, Blue Dream prefers a relative humidity of 30% to 55% throughout its vegetative stage. This is much lower than the 70% that other strains can tolerate.
Within nine to ten weeks (around mid-October if you are growing outside), your plant will begin to produce dark green buds with yellow and orange pistils. Unlike its Blueberry ancestor, it is not likely to have any purple or bluish hues. The trichomes will be clear and frost-like with moderate stickiness. If you are in a hurry, you can dry the buds for eight days and cure them for seven days. Longer drying and curing periods, however, will intensify the flavor and impact.
