Special Kush has a rather unassuming appearance. Its foliage looks like typical Indica varieties, except for a large number of orange pistils. As you will also see later, these plants can produce plenty of frosty trichomes reminiscent of White Widow.
You can ensure healthy growth by choosing the best genetics - that means obtaining the feminized seeds from a reputable seed bank. Yes, seed quality does matter, and you want to germinate those that are least likely to have any defects. More importantly, they are produced from meticulously chosen mother plants. It becomes evident as the plants grow, they are naturally better able to adapt to temperature and humidity swings (up to a reasonable extent).
Special Kush traces its genetics back to landraces in cold regions. The afghani, for instance, thrives in the harsh conditions of the Hindu Kush. And so, you can expect it to grow well in slightly colder locations. However, providing a warm environment is where these plants can best produce plenty of dense buds and the most cannabinoids.
You should top the plants to keep their height manageable. They will grow plenty of side branches. However, some of them may be too large. In this case, you can also cut some of the stems but choose those that are not likely to produce high-quality buds.
For fertilizers, start gradually during the early vegetative stage. Provide the best quality nutrients, and only half of the recommended concentration and slowly increase while observing for signs of deficiency. You do this to ease the young plants into absorbing the right amounts, avoiding excessive intake that leads to toxicity or nutrient burn.
During the flowering stage that lasts 7 to 8 weeks, Special Kush can develop up to 17% THC concentration. If you expose the plants to colder temperatures during the dark cycle, they will have purple hues. Not that it adds to the potency, but they sure would look spectacular. Their aroma also becomes more pronounced - a mix of hash, berry, skunk, and earth. For every square foot, you can harvest 1.4 to 1.6 ounces.
Outdoors, the plants thrive in warm climates similar to the Mediterranean. They could grow up to 8 feet tall, each providing between 17 to 19 ounces of buds.
